Antique c1820s Swedish Ale Bowl

Hand turned from a light birchwood, this incredible Swedish ale bowl is a really beautiful example of utilitarian folk art.

It still holds remnants of its 200 year old paintwork, with faint dark hues of floral motifs in green and red still slightly visible.

It is worn in a remarkable way, the sugars left over from the ale have blackened over time, adding a unique patination to the bowls interior.

A wonderful object of rural Scandinavian history, harkening back to a simple, harder time.

Great solid condition, useable now as a fruit bowl or trinket dish.
